A 36-year-old San Diego woman was killed in a traffic collision on Sea World Drive on Wednesday afternoon, and a transient was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and drunk driving in connection with the death, San Diego police reported.
Carmelita Dolores Sandoval was driving east on the drive west of Ingraham Street when a car driven by Emil Ottinger, 34, crossed the center divider, left the ground and sheared the top off Sandoval’s oncoming car. Sandoval was pronounced dead at the scene with massive head and chest injuries, coroner’s deputies said.
Ottinger’s car came to rest on the south shoulder and caught fire. Ottinger and an unidentified passenger were taken to UC San Diego Medical Center with moderate injuries.
