Capital Monuments Reopen

WASHINGTON — The Washington Monument and the Jefferson and Lincoln memorials were reopened to tourists today after the Potomac River receded to below flood stage.
The National Park Service inspected the monuments and found no damage had been done by the encroaching waters, which reached their highest level in 13 years Thursday and flooded the tidal basin. Elsewhere along the river, workers cleaned mud from roads and parks. Major commuter roads along the river were being reopened today.
