LONDON — The 1986 European PGA tour is expected to top $7 million in prize money.
The tour centers on the 115th British Open Championship at Turnberry, Scotland, July 17-20, and a match-play tournament is included in the schedule for the first time since 1979.
The match-play event will be held at St. Pierre, Jersey, May 8-11. Another event returning, after a year’s absence, is the Tournament Players Championship, which will be played at Sutton Coldfield, England--scene of Europe’s Ryder Cup victory over the United States this year.
Sweden, Europe’s fastest-growing golf nation, will stage two tour events next year--the Scandinavian Open near Stockholm and a new tournament at Falsterbo, Sweden.
Full details of prize money, and the schedule for late-season events including the World Match Play Championship, have yet to be finalized.
