Southern Section Tennis : Mater Dei Remains Unbeaten With Second-Round Victory

The unbeaten Mater Dei High School girls’ tennis team defeated Los Altos, 15-3, in the second round of the CIF Southern Section 3-A playoffs at the Costa Mesa Tennis Club Saturday.
The Monarchs (22-0) won all of their doubles matches, led by their No. 1 doubles pair of Sabrina Burke and Laura Spinner, who defeated Christie Mancino and Stephanie Berndt, 6-0.
In the 4-A playoffs:
Marina 13, Rio Mesa 5--The Vikings easily handled the Spartans in second-round action at the Cabrillo Racquet Club. In singles play, Marina’s Carrie Crissell defeated Wendy Ouwendijk, 6-2, Jandrea Ouwendijk, 6-1, and Jill Jones, 6-0.
Marina (19-1) advances to the quarterfinals against Westlake at a site to be determined by a coin flip today.
