Hurricane Hits Caribbean Isles

MIAMI — Hurricane Kate buffeted the northern Caribbean, the Turks and Caicos islands and the Bahamas with wind gusts of nearly 110 m.p.h. today as it advanced on south Florida, where a hurricane watch was posted.
At 11 a.m. EST, Kate was centered near latitude 21 degrees 6 minutes north and longitude 74 degrees 2 minutes west, just north of Great Inagua Island in the Bahamas and about 500 miles southeast of Miami.
