Thanks to the cancellation of the Army’s Sgt. York air-defense gun, the estimated cost of major U.S. weapon programs declined by more than $3 billion during the final quarter of fiscal 1985, the Pentagon reported. According to the congressionally mandated report, the Pentagon now expects the 92 remaining weapon programs that form the heart of President Reagan’s military buildup to cost $778.6 billion to complete.
