Searchers waded through snow in the rugged Tehachapis, trying to reach a plane believed to have crashed with two people, an instructor and a student pilot, aboard. Their names were not released. The Cherokee P-28 was flying from El Monte to Bakersfield when the pilot reported encountering turbulent wind conditions Sunday evening, the Kern County sheriff’s office reported. That transmission, just before 8 p.m., was the last radio contact the pilot had with the Federal Aviation Administration tower at Lancaster, deputies said. The crash site was believed to be five miles east of Interstate 5 and seven miles north of California 138 in the mountain range separating the Los Angeles Basin and San Joaquin Valley.
