Women’s Basketball Roundup : Chapman Downs Loyola Marymount in Opener

Senior center Leone Patterson had 22 points and seven rebounds to lead the Chapman College women’s basketball team to a 59-42 victory over Loyola Marymount Friday night in the season opener for both schools.
The Panthers, who reached the NCAA Division II West Regionals last year with a 25-4 record, also received nine points from junior forward Valeria Hartsfield. Loyola was led by Chris Connelly with 17 points and Yvette Perrodin with nine.
In other local women’s college basketball action:
Southern California College 88, Occidental 60--Sophomore guard Mary Sullivan and Lisa Touzet both scored 20 points as the Vanguards (11-23 last year) opened their 1985-86 season on a winning note.
Occidental received 17 points from Jolle Fortune and 15 from Cynthia Aldape.
In the Fullerton Community College Tournament:
Fullerton 77, Golden West 63--Stacey Rooney scored 25 points as the Hornets won their own tournament by beating the Rustlers.
Cerritos 65, Moorpark 63--The Falcons defeated the Raiders for third place.
Taft 80, Pasadena City 71--The Cougars beat the Lancers for the consolation championship.
In nonconference community college action:
Cypress 90, El Camino 64--Cheryl Hoffman scored 24 points and Christa Long added 16 as the Chargers (1-1) beat the Warriors (0-3) at Cypress.
