A new three-year pact for 4,000 butchers and meat cutters at more than 350 independent and chain groceries in Northern California was rejected by seven votes, union officials in San Francisco said. Members of five United Food and Commercial Workers union locals rejected by a 891-884 vote a proposal by the Food Employers Council. Meanwhile, talks continued in the Southern California strike without any progress reported.
