Santa Ana : Writers Lined Up for Monthly Lecture Series
- Share via
Four “top name” writers have agreed to participate in a proposed monthly lecture program called the Distinguished Author Series that will be considered by the City Council on Monday.
“Roots” author Alex Haley is scheduled to lead off the series at the City Hall Annex building in February with a lecture followed by questions and answers and an autograph session. The other three writers are former Los Angeles County Coroner Thomas Noguchi (“Coroner”), Maya Angelou (“The Clawing Within” and “Just Give Me a Cool Drink of Water ‘Fore I Diiie”) and Carmen Tafolla (“Curandra” and “To Split a Human”).
The final program in June will feature an as yet unselected author of children’s books who will present a daytime “story hour” at the Main Library to begin the library’s Summer Reading Program.
The council will decide Monday whether to allocate $20,000 for the series. Revenues of about $7,500 are expected from ticket sales.
