Three people were killed and five others injured when a car containing a Northridge family returning from a skiing trip drifted across the center divider of U.S. 395 in Inyo County, colliding head on with a car containing three Pasadena residents, the California Highway Patrol said. Killed in the accident were Vito Zambetti, 35, Northridge, and two of the Pasadena residents, Linda Niehaus, 25, and Mary Bonnabel, also 25.
