Pat Degnan, 30, has been hired as quarterback coach at Cal State Northridge, the university announced Tuesday. An assistant at Mesa (Colo.) College the past three seasons, he coached the defensive secondary last season and quarterbacks and wide receivers the two years before. In 1985, Mesa’s defense was ranked No. 4 in Division III.
At the University of Utah, Degnan was one of the NCAA’s top-rated quarterbacks in 1975 when he finished sixth in passing yardage. He is a 1973 graduate of St. Paul High in Santa Fe Springs. As a senior, he led St. Paul to a Southern Section 4-A Division championship. Interestinly, CSUN head Coach Bob Burt was an assistant coach at St. Paul from 1962 to 1964.
Northridge will announce the hiring of another assistant coach today, a school spokesman said.
