A 14-year-old Camarillo boy was killed instantly and his mother was critically injured when their car slid out of control and crashed into a power pole during Thursday’s rainstorm, authorities said.
The youth was identified by the Ventura County Coroner’s office as Frank J. Min. The boy’s mother, Katherine Junghee-Min, 38, was in critical condition Saturday at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo after undergoing surgery to amputate both her legs, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The accident occurred on Santa Rosa Road near Las Posas Road in an unincorporated area of Ventura County near Camarillo, a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said. The car apparently went out of control when it skidded on a patch of mud, she said.
