The World : Libyan Planes Turn Back

Fighter planes from the carriers Coral Sea and Saratoga, engaged in exercises off Libya’s coast in the central Mediterranean, moved to intercept about 35 Libyan warplanes, but the Libyan jets turned back toward home without making any threatening gestures, Pentagon officials said. The current exercises, scheduled to end tonight, are--like those last month--conducted as a “show of resolve” to Libyan leader Moammar Kadafi, who has branded them an “aggressive provocation.”
