Women’s College Basketball : Holmes Scores 29 to Lead Titans Past Pacific, 69-49

Robin Holmes scored a game-high 29 points and had 8 rebounds to lead the Cal State Fullerton women’s basketball team to a 69-49 Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. win over the University of the Pacific in Titan gym Saturday night.
Holmes’ total of 29 brings her within four points of becoming the Titans’ all-time leading scorer. Nancy Ratliff scored 1,580 points for the Titans from 1980-83.
Fullerton improved to 6-5 and 8-14. Pacific fell to 2-7, 8-14.
In other PCAA action:
UC Irvine 82, San Diego State 69--Natalie Crawford and Sherri Graham scored 22 points apiece and were a combined 20 of 22 from the field in helping the Anteaters past the Aztecs in a game at Peterson Gym in San Diego.
Led by Crawford and Graham, the Anteaters made 17 of 21 shots from the field in the second half (81%). They shot 67% for the game. Irvine (5-5, 13-10) led, 44-35, at halftime, but San Diego (5-5, 12-13) closed to within four at 52-48.
Cal State Long Beach 85, Nevada Las Vegas 78--Cal State Long Beach’s sixth-ranked women’s basketball team survived a furious Rebel comeback to win at Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.
Center Cindy Brown scored 10 of her team’s last 16 points as the 49ers (9-0, 21-2) held off the Rebels (7-3, 15-8), who had a 74-73 lead with 2:42 left.
Brown scored 25 points, despite picking up her fourth foul with 9:24 to play.
In Pac West action:
USC 83, Arizona 67--Cheryl Miller had 19 points and 9 rebounds as the Trojans pulled away in the second half for a Pac West victory at Tucson.
The Trojans (6-0, 22-3) had a 39-33 lead at halftime and broke open the game with a 16-6 surge in the first five minutes of the second half.
UCLA 76, Arizona State 68--Jamie Brown scored 18 points, and the Bruins (2-4, 10-14) turned back the Sun Devils (3-3, 12-9) at Tempe, Ariz.
In CCAA action:
Chapman 61, Cal State Dominguez Hills 45--Leone Patterson had a game-high 12 points to pace the Panthers (5-5, 15-9).
In nonconference action:
Christ College Irvine 69, Occidental 64--Liz Brehm led the Eagles (4-17) to the win in Irvine with 23 points.
