Eastern Airlines pilots set up informational picket lines outside airports in 11 cities, and a federal mediator held preliminary talks with negotiators in an effort to avert a possible strike next week over wage cuts and work rules. Representatives of the pilots’ union and the company resume joint sessions today in Miami.
