Seeing China
I have to respond to the letter from Mr. and Mrs. Tracht, Jan. 12. Certainly China is not yet a country developed enough for traveling in absolute comfort. But obviously some people choose inadequate travel organizations. We traveled through China for 24 days last October. We never were bumped from anything, never experienced inadequate food or filthy toilet facilities--we always had our private bathroom. We stayed in first-class hotels, even in state guest houses in Shanghai and Peking. Vice President Bush was in that Peking guest house at the same time; might be his entourage had taken over part of the Great Wall Hotel.
The price for this Travcoa tour was about $1,500, higher compared to average travel groups, but we got the China experience we were looking for. When one spends less and later has reason to complain, then the paid-out money is wasted.
