Los Alamitos : Man Faces Sentencing on Molestation Charges

A former National Guard sergeant is scheduled to be sentenced May 2 on charges of molesting several teen-age boys in the Los Alamitos area.
Robert (Scotty) McCairns, 41, of Los Alamitos entered a surprise guilty plea Thursday just as his trial was beginning before Superior Court Judge Ragnar Engebretsen. In addition to 12 felony counts of oral copulation and sodomy, McCairns pleaded guilty to 13 misdemeanor charges of contributing to the delinquency of minors.
Authorities said that McCairns, who was an Optimist Club official and had worked as a prison guard and sheriff’s deputy, befriended boys in his neighborhood and invited them to his apartment, where he served them alcoholic beverages and showed them X-rated films and photographs. He was arrested in May, 1984.
Explicit photographs, as well as numerous sexual devices, were seized from McCairns’ quarters at the Los Alamitos Armed Forces Reserve Center and from a storage facility he had rented.
