Japan liberalized some bank interest rates.

The Japanese Finance Ministry liberalized interest rates and other restrictions as part of the government’s continuing effort to deregulate the country’s financial system and make the yen a more widely used currency in the world. Among other moves, banks will be allowed to freely set interest rates on time deposits of accounts of 500 million yen or more, down from 1 billion yen.
