PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Prostitution charges were dismissed today against two Brown University senior women arrested in an alleged sex-for-hire ring.
The attorney general’s office dropped the charges against Dana E. Smith, 21, of Avon, Conn., and Rebecca R. Kidd, 21, of Orange, Conn., during a pretrial hearing in Providence District Court.
The students were arrested March 6 and charged with loitering for prostitution, a misdemeanor. Each had pleaded innocent to the charge, and neither appeared at the courthouse today.
Their arrests sparked an investigation of a possible citywide prostitution ring involving as many as 46 women, six of whom police identified as current or former students at the Ivy League school. No other arrests have been made.
