Victor Carter, an All-Southern Section defensive back from Palo Verde High in Blythe, has signed a letter of intent with Cal State Northridge.
Carter (5-11, 170) had seven interceptions and made 88 tackles last season. He was defensive player of the year in the Desert Valleys League.
Mark Hicks of L.A. Baptist High has been hit by a pitch at least once in each of the Knights’ 11 games, prompting Coach Ed Wais to say, “He’s not afraid of the ball. He’s willing to take one for the team to get on base.”
Add L.A. Baptist: Troy Lawrence, the team’s No. 2 pitcher, has been declared academically ineligible.
L.A. Lutheran’s top pitcher, John Lopez, and the team’s No. 2 hitter, Dave Willweber, have been lost for the season.
Lopez, who has a 1-2 record with a 3.41 ERA and carries a .450 batting average, is academically ineligible. Willweber, who was batting .448, suffered a broken ankle playing basketball.
