Texas Christian University has received notice of NCAA penalties to be imposed on its football program, Chancellor William E. Tucker said, although he refused to say what the penalties would be.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram quoted an unidentified source as saying that the penalties were less than those discussed by the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions and school officials during the last month.
Penalties considered were (1) a drastic reduction in scholarship awards of 35 over a two-year period, (2) a one-year ban on bowl participation and television appearances and (3) a three-year probationary period.
