Cherished Memories
Thanks to Elaine Kendall for her sensitive review of Hildegarde Flanner’s memoir, “Brief Cherishing” (View, March 11). The review brings back memories of the time, early in the century, when my wife, the Iowa novelist Ruth Suckow, and I were living in Altadena, not far from Hildegarde and her husband, Frederick Monhoff, and enjoyed knowing them. They were delightful people.
