GONE HOLLYWOOD?

Native Philadelphian Richard Fielder is producer of “George Washington II,” the CBS miniseries now shooting in Philly’s Society Hill. It’s one of our oldest and best preserved historical areas--but residents are complaining that the production company is trashing the place, with cars being towed to accommodate shooting, tons of dirt being spread over streets in order to achieve the right 18th-Century “look,” houses being blocked by film company food trucks and horses being fed delicious branches torn from local trees.
Fielder can’t understand the fuss, “given the service we are doing for generations yet unborn.” The production “is going to be seen for decades to come” and “captures the essence of their (the Society Hill residents’) roots.”
A spokesman for the city: “We don’t expect everybody to be a Philadelphia booster, but we expect our guests to have better manners.”
