SACRAMENTO — At a surprise inspection of commercial buses Saturday on Interstate 80, the Highway Patrol said it ordered 21 of the 44 inspected taken out of service for serious violations.
During the almost five hours of inspection conducted at the Antelope truck scales, 136 buses went through the scales.
The patrol said that on the 44 buses inspected, officers found 177 violations and issued 51 citations. In some cases, citations were issued to the bus owner and the driver.
The most frequent violation involved brakes.
Only three of the buses that were inspected were in total compliance with the law, the patrol said.
