Pomona Homes Saved in 100-Acre Blaze

Flames charred 100 acres of brush and advanced to the backyards of expensive hillside homes in Pomona on Sunday before they were extinguished without damage to any of the structures, officials said.
The blaze began shortly after 4 p.m. on a hillside near Phillips Drive in the Westmont Hills residential area, fire officials said.
“It burned right up to the back of some of the yards,” said Battalion Chief Dave Felty.
It took about 100 Pomona and Los Angeles County firefighters, aided by helicopter water drops, less than two hours to put out the blaze.
