4 Governors to Attack Great Lakes Pollution

MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. — Four governors on Wednesday signed an agreement to attack pollution in the Great Lakes by virtually prohibiting discharges of toxic chemicals into the waters.
The pact was signed by Govs. James R. Thompson of Illinois, James J. Blanchard of Michigan, Richard F. Celeste of Ohio and Anthony S. Earl of Wisconsin. It follows earlier regional moves to ban oil drilling in the lakes.
