China Confirms It Has Telephone Links With Israel

PEKING — China, a supporter of the Palestine Liberation Organization, confirmed Wednesday that it has telephone links with Israel but said this does not alter its policy barring dealings with the Jewish state.
A top Israeli official said in Tel Aviv on Monday that the two countries established telephone links two months ago despite the absence of formal diplomatic ties.
A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said in Peking on Wednesday that it is not unusual for Chinese business communications with another country to be relayed through a third country.
