Surico Named Century League Player of the Year

Steve Surico, the senior left-hander who went 9-1 with an 0.58 earned-run average and 132 strikeouts during the regular season to lead the Tustin High School baseball team to the Century League championship, has been named the league’s Player of the Year.
Surico has signed a national letter of intent to attend Loyola Marymount University next fall. Vince Brown, in his first season as the Tillers’ coach, has been named Coach of the Year.
The Century League teams:
First Team: Pitchers--Steve Surico (Tustin) and Mike Townley (Canyon). Catcher--Todd French (Canyon). First baseman--Mike Grahovac (Foothill). Infielders--Chris Cutliff (Foothill), Carlos Lopez (Santa Ana Valley), Corey Ahart (El Modena) and Armando Olivares (Santa Ana). Outfielders--John McTaggart (Foothill), Andrew Greco (Foothill), John Hefler (Santa Ana), Mike Anderson (Tustin) and Ross Bauer (El Modena). Designated hitter--Pat Crawford (Foothill). Utility player--Chris Floth (Tustin).
Second Team: Pitchers--Mike Pope (Foothill) and Wayne Elmore (Canyon). Catchers Hector Olivares (Santa Ana) and Tony Borjos (Santa Ana Valley). First baseman--Ralph Garcia (Canyon). Infielders--Matt Lundin (Tustin), Mike Sliemers (Canyon), Ken Lynch (Tustin) and Ed Villela (El Modena). Outfielders--Lee Pooler (Tustin), David Shill (Orange), John Miscovich (Orange) and Jaime Franco (Santa Ana). Designated hitter--Craig Pollard (Villa Park). Utility player--David Fox (Foothill).
