Kidnaper-Molester Given Life Sentence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The convicted abductor and molester of a 14-year-old Long Beach boy was sentenced here Thursday to life imprisonment by a judge who called him “a blight on society.”
David Collins, 56, was found guilty of kidnaping Bobby Smith from his home in April, 1983, and molesting him during a 21-month trek across the United States. He finally was arrested by Providence police investigating an auto accident.
Collins contended that the boy went with him willingly.
