Lawrence T. Papay, a registered nuclear engineer for Southern California Edison Co., on June 16 will discuss the Chernobyl disaster and the potential for a similar accident in Southern California.
The discussion, “Can It Happen Here?” will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Irvine Hilton Imperial Room, 17900 Jamboree Blvd., following a noon luncheon. Town Hall of California, a nonprofit organization that sponsors public forums on various issues, is presenting the program, said Town Hall spokeswoman Rhoberly H. Blithe.
Papay has served on several private and governmental advisory bodies on energy problems, including stints with the federal office of technical assessment on solar power and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology corporate visiting committee for the department of nuclear engineering.
Papay, who obtained his doctorate from MIT, is in charge of Edison’s quality assurance. The company owns and operates the San Onofre nuclear plant.
Reservations can be booked at (714) 641-8500 or 628-8141. Tickets are $17.
