Carl Holmes, a three-year starter for the Magnolia High School baseball team, has signed a contract to play for the San Diego Padre organization.
Holmes, a 6-foot 4-inch, 200-pound center fielder, will graduate from Magnolia Friday and fly to Spokane, Wash., Saturday to report to the Padre rookie affiliate in the Northwest League.
Holmes, who was selected in the seventh round of last week’s free-agent draft, hit .365 with six doubles, nine stolen bases and 22 RBIs for the Sentinels this season. He is a member of the North team in tonight’s Orange County All-Star game in Glover Stadium.
