About 50 firefighters worked through the night to extinguish a blaze at the Shell Oil Refinery in Martinez, near San Francisco. No one was injured, although flames and thick black smoke shot high above the complex. Workers had to shift oil from one tank to another so the flames would not spread. The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
