A Compton man was booked on suspicion of attempted murder in the shooting last November of Hawthorne City Councilman David York, police said. Michael Rosell, 27, was part of an auto-theft ring that resorted at times to armed robbery to fill orders for specific makes and models, officers said. York was shot in the abdomen in the parking lot of a Redondo Beach shopping center as his wife, 8-year-old daughter and another child were looking on. A former Hawthorne police lieutenant, York said the man walked up, demanded his keys and then fired a handgun. York’s car was stolen and later found abandoned and burned in Compton. Hawthorne Police Sgt. Steve Frasier said Rosell’s arrest resulted from confidential information given to authorities.
