Protecting Vistas

The U.S. Senate is upset over a planned high-rise that might impinge on the pleasant vistas of Washington, D.C. (Editorial Pages, June 17).
A pity the solons aren’t as interested in protecting the landscape of their constituents. If so, they would block Interior Secretary Donald P. Hodel’s scheme to plant high-rise oil rigs along California’s coastline. If they can tax the high-rises around Washington according to each vertical foot, why not the grimy monsters Hodel would put in our Pacific front yard?
