LOW SCORE

Perhaps the recent NBC movie “Liberty” gave us the most graphic example yet of how low music budgets and bad taste of some Hollywood producers have caused the art of movie and television music scoring to deteriorate to an all-time low in recent years.

The “grand finale” dedicating our sacred symbol could have been extremely beautiful with real instruments performing the music.

Instead, we were subjected to a pitiful attempt at imitating strings, woodwinds and brass with a synthesizer. One wonders of the cost cutters cared at all about the message of this program and what it meant to the unemployed musicians of L.A. (reputed to be amongst the greatest in the world) to be excluded from such “patriotic” events as this, as well as the wonderful Olympic ceremonial music disc recorded in London.

Is anyone out there listening anymore?
