Rick Haffey of Redondo Beach missed the point completely in his criticism of Patrick Goldstein’s use of the term Mid-America regarding Modesto in “ ‘American Graffiti’: Still Crusin’ After All These Years,” June 22).

Haffey equated Mid-America with Midwest .

That is not a term of geography but of a state of mentality, and there are just three such American states: Southern California (you know how we are), East Coast (read New York ), and all the rest is Mid-America.
