$100 Million to Aid Nicaragua’s Contras: Pro and Con

One might surmise that Ronald Reagan thinks he has pulled a brilliant maneuver by talking key congressmen into voting in favor of funding the contras . One might also surmise that he sees no similarities between the current political scenario and the one that persuaded Americans to pour countless money, troops and inhumanity into Vietnam. Perhaps a better comparison can be drawn with the Russian invasion of Afghanistan: Both it and Nicaragua have tiny populations pitted against superpowers.
