NO SINGLE HOST FOR SHOW : DAYTIME TV STARS TEAM UP FOR EMMYS

NEW YORK — NBC is gearing up to telecast the 13th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards Thursday and, after deciding not to have a single host for the broadcast, the organizers have instead paired presenters from the various soaps.

“We think that when people watch an awards show they want to see their favorite stars,” says Brian Frons, vice president of daytime programs for NBC Entertainment, “and that’s what we’re going to deliver.”

The telecast will start off with a music video-type opening number that will include a montage of scenes from all 13 daytime dramas.

“We want to have a little more fun with the telecast this year,” said Bill Carruthers, the executive producer and director of the awards show. He said that the comedy writing team of David Castro and Daphne Polin will be the writers for the show.

The teamed presenters will include: Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn (Marlena and Roman Brady on “Days of Our Lives”); Kristian Alfonso and Stephen Nichols (Hope Brady and “Patch” Johnson on “Days of Our Lives”); Andrea Evans and Roscoe Born (Tina Lord and Mitch Laurence of “One Life to Live”); Terry Lester and Melody Thomas Scott (Jack Abbott and Nikki Newman on “The Young and the Restless”); Jed Allan and Judith McConnell (C.C. and Sophia Capwell on “Santa Barbara”).

Also teamed up are Brian Bloom and Martha Byrne (Dusty Donovan and Lily Walsh on “As the World Turns”); David Forsyth, Jeff Meek and Matthew Ashford (Hogan, Quinn and Cagney McCleary on “Search for Tomorrow”); A Martinez and Marcy Walker (Cruz Castillo and Eden Cranston on “Santa Barbara”); Stephen Schnetzer and Julie Osburn (Cass Winthrop and Kathleen McKinnon of “Another World”); Douglass Watson and Victoria Wyndham (Mac and Rachel Cory on “Another World”) and John Reilly and Leslie Charleson (Sean Donelly and Monica Quartermaine of “General Hospital”).

Kim Zimmer (Reva Shayne on “Guiding Light”), last year’s best actress winner, and Darnell Williams (Jesse Hubbard on “All My Children”), last year’s best actor winner, will be presenting this year’s award for best daytime drama.

The Emmy show will be seen on the West Coast at 2 p.m. Thursday on Channels 4, 36 and 39.
