Damage Light From Three Brush Fires

Three brush fires that broke out almost simultaneously in widely separated parts of the county late Saturday afternoon were brought under control within a few hours. They caused only minor damage.
The largest, a 50-acre blaze in the Harmony Grove area southwest of Escondido, destroyed a farm outbuilding.
Steep terrain slowed efforts to contain the fire, a California Department of Forestry spokeswoman said. Drops from aircraft of fire retardant chemicals and backfires eventually prevented the blaze from reaching populated areas.
A one-acre grass fire near Tecate and a 25-acre fire near Boulevard also broke out at about 4 p.m., the same time as the Harmony Grove blaze.
Three chicken coops were destroyed in the Boulevard fire.
