Santa Monica : Planning Vacancy Filled
The City Council has elected Elizabeth Burns to fill a seat on the Planning Commission vacated by Margo Hebald-Heymann, who resigned June 24.
Burns, who was nominated by Councilman Herb Katz, Tuesday received the votes of All Santa Monica Coalition council members Katz, William Jennings, David Epstein and Mayor Christine E. Reed and independent Councilman Alan Katz.
Although Burns was supported by the coalition, Herb Katz maintained that one reason he nominated her was that she was new to politics and not affiliated with either council faction. “She has no label on her,” he said.
Santa Monicans for Renter’s Rights Councilmen Dennis Zane and James Conn voted for the only other nominee, Donald Nelson.
