Len Bias, the University of Maryland All-American who died of cocaine intoxication two days after being chosen No. 2 overall in the NBA draft, was named Atlantic Coast Conference Athlete of the Year Saturday.
Bias was named on 48 of 113 ballots cast by members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Writers Assn. Second in the voting was Duke basketball All-America Johnny Dawkins with 33 votes.
The balloting was done after Bias died June 19.
Meanwhile, sheriff’s deputies in Upper Marlboro, Md., continued to search for a former University of Maryland student indicted on drug charges by a grand jury that investigated Bias’ death.
Brian Tribble, 24, who was Bias’ close friend, was wanted on charges of distributing cocaine, possessing cocaine with intent to distribute, possessing cocaine and possessing PCP, his attorney, William Cahill Jr., confirmed.
