Deukmejian and Divestment

According to a Times article (July 18), the University of California would have lost $250 million had it sold all its stock in companies doing business with South Africa.
Just who is going to “make up” that kind of loss at a time when colleges, public schools and everyone else is crying for more state and federal money?
It certainly won’t be the loud-mouthed morons who are crying “divest” with every breath.
Why doesn’t the university just tell the students, publicly, how much tuition each one will have to pay to compensate for the loss the university would suffer by doing as they are all “chanting.” If this does not stop their noise they have no business in a university anyway. We have other public institutions more suitable for “students” like that.
