Soviet and American travelers ended their six-day “peace cruise” down the Mississippi River in St. Louis and joined schoolchildren in singing “We Are the World.” The 53 Soviet citizens and 130 Americans began their voyage for mutual understanding on the river boat Delta Queen in La Crosse, Wis. Placard-carrying protesters greeted the cruise at each stop, but they were heavily outnumbered by enthusiastic crowds. The Soviet contingent included a cosmonaut, medical researchers, educators, writers, journalists and researchers.
