Concert to Aid Jobless Miners Poorly Attended

MANNINGTON, W.Va. — A 16-hour “Coal Aid Concert” to raise funds for unemployed miners ended Sunday as promoters complained they did not make enough money to meet expenses.
Bill Pritchard, organizer of the concert, said only 1,500 people attended. Pritchard said he did not know how much money was raised for the United Mine Workers District 31 Relief Fund, which covers miners in 32 West Virginia counties.
