Citing higher sales to the defense industry and cost cutting in its commercial operations, Microsemi Corp., a Santa Ana maker of semiconductor products, posted record income and revenue Monday for the third quarter and nine months ended June 29.
In the quarter, Microsemi’s year-to-year net income rose 38.1% to $1.45 million from $1.05 million. Sales increased 14.6% to $10.2 million from $8.9 million.
In the nine-month period, the corporation’s net income rose 37.9% to $4 million from $2.9 million in the same period a year ago. Sales were up 11.8% to $28.4 million from $25.4 million.
Sales-order backlog at the close of the quarter was $13.2 million, down slightly from $13.4 million at the end of the second quarter, mainly because of delays in government procurement procedures, said David R. Sonksen, vice president for finance.
