Rehnquist Nomination
Why are the left-wing extremists always the first to apply the label “extremist” to their conservative opponents?
It would be hard to find a more extreme socialist in politics than Ted Kennedy, yet he calls Rehnquist an “extremist”--mostly, he says, because Rehnquist does not “apply the Constitution to the changing spirit of the times,” which is to say, of course, that the Supreme Court justice interprets the Constitution as written; he does not usurp the legislative or executive function.
Rehnquist’s decisions reflect the law as it is written, not as Kennedy might wish it was written. Hopefully, when the liberals get tired of grandstanding for the media, they will let the Senate get on with the business of confirming the President’s appointment.
