A four-party coalition in Thailand, which won 232 of the 347 seats in the July 27 election, renominated Prime Minister Prem Tinsulanonda at an opening-day session of Parliament marked by a demonstration against the nomination. Anti-Prem factions in the coalition attempted to nominate Bichai Raatakul for prime minister, but the move carried fewer than 1oo signatures. Bichai is the head of the Democratic Party, the single party winner in the election with 100 seats. A royal decree appointing Prem is expected today.
