STOCKHOLM — Norway’s Ingrid Kristiansen broke Zola Budd’s world record in the women’s 5,000 meters by more than nine seconds with a time of 14 minutes, 37 seconds in an international track and field meet today.
Budd had set the mark of 14:48.07 last year in London. It was the 66th world record set in Stockholm’s Olympic stadium since 1912 and it was Kristiansen’s second world mark in a month. She set the 10,000-meter world record July 5 in her hometown of Oslo.
