Lakers Likely to Sign Billy Thompson Today

Billy Thompson, the Lakers’ top rookie, likely will sign a contract with the club today, team officials said Wednesday. The Lakers obtained the rights to Thompson on draft day in a trade that sent veteran guard Mike McGee and a first-round draft pick to Atlanta.

Thompson, a 6-7 guard from the University of Louisville, has agreed to terms with the Lakers, but the league office had not yet approved the deal Wednesday.
